Dan Aykroyd was born on July 1, 1952, in Ontario, Canada. His father Samuel Cuthbert Peter Hugh Aykroyd was a civil engineer and also advised former French Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau. His mother Lorraine Hélène Marie was an office secretary. Originally, Dan wanted to become a priest. He went to St. Pius X High School and St. Patrick’s High School. He dropped out of Carleton University and started working as a stand-up comedian in nightclubs.

Career

Dan started his career by joining the sketch comedy series The Hart and Lorne Terrific Hour which was short-lived.  He gained prominence after appearing in the comedy show Saturday Night Live (SNL). He was originally hired as a writer but joined the cast before its premiere. He became very popular with the audiences for his unique style of comedy and impersonations of several celebs such as Jimmy Carter, Julia Child, Rod Serling, Richard Nixon, and Vincent Price.
