Early Life

Post’s father, Rich Post, who raised him along with his stepmother, Jodie Post, was a disc jockey during his youth years and introduced Post to various music genres including rock, country, and hip-hop.

At the age of 9, the family moved to Texas as Rich Post became the manager of Dallas Cowboys. Post Malone auditioned for “Crown the Empire” in 2010 but got rejected as his guitar strings broke.

The game “Guitar Hero” spawned his interest in learning guitar and his professional music career began in a heavy metal band after which he transitioned to soft rock and hip-hop. Post was dropped out of Tarrant Country College after which he moved to Los Angeles with his professional game streamer friend, Jason Probst; together with other artists, they initiated a music group BLCKVRD. He moved to San Fernando where he met the 1st down of FKi.

The stage name “Post Malone” was generated using a rap name generator. Malone was fortunate to meet 1st and Rich from FKi and Rex Kudo, the producers of Post’s tracks including “White Iverson” that was recorded two days and was a reference to Allen Iverson.

The song was posted on Soundcloud In February 2015 and on July 19, 2015; its music video was released reaching 390 million views, receiving praise from Wiz Khalifa and Mac Miller but being mocked by Earl Sweatshirt.

In August 2015, a contract was signed with Republic Records by Post and subsequently worked alongside rappers such as 50 Cent. On April 20, 2016, Post’s single “Go Flex” got featured on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 show. On June 9, 2016, Post performed the song on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

In August 2016, Post apologized for “Stoney” being late, which he called to be mediocre, regardless of which it appeared in Billboard 100. In February 2017, Beerbongs & Bentleys were introduced and pushed to release in 2018. “Rockstar” was released in September, featuring the 21 Savage, hitting the Billboard 100 again with Rolling Stone calling Post the most popular in the country.
