Naira Marley Biography

Naira Marley aka Azeez Adeshina Fashola was born on 10 May 1991 in Lagos, Nigeria. When he was 11 years old, his family relocated to England. He attended Peckham Academy and graduated with a Business degree. Marley also went to Crossways College to study law but his heart was in music. He knew that he wanted to become an artist.

Career

Naira Marley started his career in 2014 when his close friends encouraged him to follow his passion for music. He released a song with the help of Max Twigz titled  Marry Juana. In 2015, Marley released his debut EP titled Gotta Dance. In 2017, he released his song ”Issa Goal” which was used as a theme song by the Nigerian Football team at the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

In 2019, Naira Marley released his single ”Am I A Yahoo Boy” which greatly profited from the news of his arrest by EFCC on the same day. After getting released from jail, he released another song ”Soapy” which went viral. In December 2019, Naira launched his second EP Lord of Lamba which further brought him acclaim. He has launched his own record label named Marlian Records. He signed several artists including Fabian Blu, Lyta, Zinoleesky and MohBad to his label.

Naira Marley has been involved in several controversies. In 2019, he was arrested alongside Abubakar Musa, Tiamiu Kayode, Adewunmi Moses, and Zlatan by the EFCC. Others were later released but Naira was still held in custody. He was charged with 11 counts of fraud. Naira pleaded not guilty and was released after posting ₦2,000,000 bail. While he was in prison, he released several songs.

In 2020, Naira was arrested several times for violating the Covid-19 protocols and lockdown orders. He was indicted by the FCT Administration for performing in a concert in Abuja despite a travel ban and social distancing rules.

His most famous songs are Pxta, Am I A Yahoo Boy, Kosi Werey, Back2work, Opotoyi, Soapy, Mafo, Chi Chi, As E Dey Go, Mofoti, Dido lobo, Aye, Japa, and Bad influence. His genres are Hip hop and Afrobeats. Naira is signed to Marlian Records, MOVES recordings, and Cash Ellz Entz.
