Yinka Davies was conceived on July 16, 1970 in Lagos, Nigeria. Her father was from Sierra Leone and her mother belonged to Ikorodu. Her grandmother is from the Shagamu royal family. Yinka’s dad used to lay guitar which led her to become interested in music at a very young age. She went to Reagan Memorial Baptist Primary School for her studies.

When she was growing up in her grandma’s house, she used to listen to songs of Elvis Presley, Dora, Ifufdu, Jimmy Dean, Mmaman Shatta, Dan Maria, Jos, Hadjia Funtua, Fela and Orlando Julius on the radio. In her childhood, she noticed while watching television that there were almost no female musicians and singers appearing on the TV.

Yinka started her professional career in 1992. She joined a club and started performing there. She worked on another singer’s album. Yinka released her first album time in 1998. Her second album Emi n’lo was released in 2002 which brought her fame and attention. She launched her third album Black Chiffon in 2010 which was a huge success.
