Banky W aka Olubankole Wellington was conceived on March 27, 1981 in New York City, USA. When he was five years old, his family relocated to Nigeria. He completed his primary education in Lagos and traveled to New York City to attend Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. While he was studying, he formed a record label ”Empire Mates Entertainment”.
Career
In 2009, Banky moved to Nigeria to pursue his music career full-time. He signed several musicians to his music label such as Davido, Shaydee, Patoranking, Skales and Wizkid. He released his debut album Back in the Building in 2006 which was an astonishing success. In 2008, Banky launched his second album Mr. Capable which brought him into the limelight.
In 2009, his third album The W Experience was released which was positively received. In 2013, he dropped his fourth album R&BW. It was critically acclaimed and was nominated for several awards. In 2018, his label EME was terminated and rebranded into a talent management company. He signed his beloved wife Adesua Etomi, Toolz Oniru, DJ Xclusive, and Ebuka Obi-Uchendu to his new company.
