Aramide Biography

Aramide was born on 22 June 1985 in Lagos, Nigeria. Information regarding her parents, childhood, and school is scarce. Her family was music-oriented that’s why Aramide developed a passion for music from a very young age. She went to school in Lagos. Later, Aramide attended the University of Jos where she got her bachelor’s degree in political science.

Career

Aramide started her inspiring career in 2006 when she entered into a reality series called ‘Star Quest’. It is one of the most famous and respected Nigerian Talent shows. Her band ended at 4th position in the contest. In 2008, she participated in a  show called ‘Divas Unplugged’ in Jos, Nigeria. It featured many prominent female artists in the Nigerian music industry. This show brought Aramide praise and recognition.

In 2014, Aramide exited Trybe Records and signed a deal with Baseline Music. In 2015, she got a breakthrough when her song ””Iwo Nikan” was released. It went viral and fetched her several awards. In 216, Aramide released her debut album titled Suitcase. Her song ”I Don’t Care” reached the number 1 position on MTN Yhello Top 10 Nigeria Chart. Another one of her songs ”Love Me” grabbed the #1 spot on the Alternative Nigerian Chart.

Her musical inspirations are Miriam Makeba, Erykah Badu, Angélique Kidjo, and Sade. Aramide mixes jazz and soul with African music to showcase her sound. She is credited with a genre named Afro-Soul. She launched a worldwide tour to promote her album. Aramide was also featured in Davido’s song Eruko, 2Baba‘s single Amaka and Eldee’s song ”Today Today”.

Her famous singles are Love Me, Iwo Nikan, Fall on them, Me and You Time, FunMi Lowo, Jowo, Bose, Magic, Ekuro, Gbo Ohun, Yemi My Lover, Grateful Medley, Same God, So GrateFul, Stranger in Rome and I’m a Winner.

She is signed to label Arry Moore. Her genres are afro-pop and Jazz. Aramide has collaborated with several musical artists such as Skales, Banky W, elDee, Koker, Ice Prince, Saeon, Onos, Shola Allyson, Yemi Alade, Muna, Jowhiz, Reekado Banks, Faze, and Adekunle Gold.
